Requirements and Deliverables:

The requirements and deliverables can be found here: H517 Visualization Design, Analysis and Evaluation/requirements and delivarables - Project 1

As the first step of this project, I thoroughly analysed the requirements and assessed the London Cholera Map designed by John Snow to get some idea about the layout of the map.

Then, I started with the plot of the static map and then proceeded to plot the pumps and deaths.

This was followed by plotting the interactive line graph and legends.

Color Choices for Map and Graph:

Up until I was introduced to this course, I was unaware about the importance of COLOR.

The map initially displays death locations in white with black border.

The best way I thought of representing male and female is by standard blue for male and pink for female.

For symbolizing different age groups I decided to go for lighter to darker shades of violet. Lighest being for 0-1 year age group and the darkest for 80 years and above age group.

Observations:

We can observe that the largest number of victims are from the age group 80 years and above So, this epidemic affected this age group than the others and hence, have the least survival rate.

We can also observe that there ahd been twice the number of deaths in age group 0-1year when compared to the remaining two groups combined.

The total number of female fatalities is approxiamtely equal to male fatalities. Therefore, immunity to this disease is not related to gender.

The outbreak was dated on September 1st, but the actual timeline August 19 to September 29th. From the timeline we can note that there is a sharp increase in the number of deaths till 1st September and then a reduction. This shows that there were some positive measures taken to subdue this outbreak.
